David Energy detected a rate class change—what should I do?

Edited

A change in your rate class may not mean something is wrong. Your rate class may change if:

  • You’ve opened a new location

  • You’ve extended your operating hours

  • You’ve installed new equipment

  • Your electricity demand has increased significantly for another known reason

David Energy advisors recommend following some standard best practices for keeping your electricity demand under control:

  • Ensure your HVAC setpoints are not too high in the winter or too low in the summer. Energy.gov suggests 78° F in the summer / 68° F in the winter while people are present, although you may need to adjust this according to your business needs.

  • Stagger equipment startup whenever possible

If none of these scenarios apply to you, you may have a metering issue.

To resolve metering issues:

  • First, check the FAQs on your utility’s website to see if they provide guidance for your specific circumstances

  • If your issue is not resolved, you may need to contact your utility directly.
