David Energy detected a supplier change—what should I do?

Edited

You have the right to decide who supplies your energy. Your energy supplier could be your utility, who also delivers your energy, or a third-party supplier of your choice. If your supplier has changed, and you did not authorize this change, it could mean someone in your organization was solicited by an energy company to make a change, or it could be an energy scam.

To look up your electricity supplier:

  • Log in to your utility's website or customer portal

  • Navigate to your account information or billing section

  • Look for a section labeled "Supply Information" or "Energy Supplier"

  • If you can't find this information online, check your most recent utility bill - your supplier should be listed there

If you discover an unauthorized supplier change:

  • Document when you noticed the change

  • Take screenshots or save copies of your bills showing the unauthorized change

  • Contact your utility company immediately to report the unauthorized switch

  • File a complaint with your state's public utility commission
