David Energy detected a zero meter read—what should I do?

Edited

A zero read is when your energy meter shows no usage for a period. This might indicate a faulty meter or an error in the reading.

Your utility is responsible for ensuring your meter is functioning properly. However, if it takes them several billing cycles to notice and fix, you may be hit with a surprise large bill down the road.

To report a broken meter to your utility:

  • Gather your account information, including your account number and service address

  • Call your utility's customer service number (usually found on your bill or their website)

  • Select the option for reporting technical issues or meter problems

  • Explain the zero meter reading situation to the representative

  • Request a meter inspection or replacement

After reporting the issue:

  • Record the date of your call and any reference number provided

  • Keep monitoring your bills for any unusual charges or adjustments
